Internet Rechartering

Renew the charter for packs, troops, teams, crews, and ships

A representative of each unit can complete the paperwork for renewing a charter online starting on November 1st. From Internet Rechartering, you can indicate returning members, add new members, and update information for an individual or the chartered organization.

How to Use

Anyone who wants to learn more about how Internet Rechartering works can take the interactive Internet Rechartering and view the help.

Notes: Internet rechartering is unavailable during the standard Scout Net maintenance window from 9 PM CT on Saturday to 6 PM CT on Sunday. A unit trying to recharter during this time period will get a server error message.

When doing the online re-chartering please remember to pull the names exactly as they are listed in our system. Otherwise, if you use a different version of the name it will result in a duplicate listing, which will not have historical records attached.

To renew a charter online:

  1. Have your Unit number and ID # and access code ready. You can find this on a label in your re-chartering packet. Follow the directions for online re-chartering.
  2. When the online process is completed, the renewal processor prints the completed charter renewal application.
  3. The unit leader and the chartered organization representative sign the charter renewal application. Bring the application along with the material you received in your recharter packet (such as the gold Charter Agreement), and all appropriate fees to your Unit Commissioner or to the council office.
  4. It is now mandatory for every leader registered with the Boy Scouts of America to have completed the appropriate Youth Protection training (YPT) within the last 2 years.  Beginning with this renewal cycle, all leaders’ YPT must be current or the volunteer will not be re-registered.  If a leader that holds a mandatory/required position in your unit (ex. Cubmaster) has not completed the YPT training in the last 2 years, the council will not be able to charter the unit until that person has completed the training.

Here are detailed instructions and forms for rechartering.

Charter Renewal Timeline for 2011:

Your unit should appoint a Rechartering Coordinator. Once their name is submitted to your district executive, they will receive your re-charter packet in October. All units need to recharter by December 9. The Internet Recharter becomes available on November 1, 2011.

If you try to use the Internet Recharter before November 1, 2011, you will not be able to access your unit's records.

If new scouts join before you begin the online process, drop the application forms off to the council office with payments, and all of their information will show up on the online roster. This saves you time inputting new scouts, and makes sure they are registered and insured immediately.

If you want paper...

The instruction page that contains your access code also has a section to fill out and return to the Council if you prefer to complete the charter renewal using the standard paper method.

Background Checks and Volunteers

Any volunteer who has not submitted an application that authorized a Criminal Background Check was sent a letter requesting authorization. Those who did not respond will not appear on the charter documents and will have to submit a new application. Further details are available.
