Boy Scout Fast Start Training

Available to persons interested in working with the Boy Scout Program, this training is NOT designed to replace Basic Leader Training, but rather to provide you with a quick introduction to the program and provide an overview of the Boy Scout Program.

All Des Plaines Valley Council units were issued a copy of the "FAST START" training tape. This was promoted by the council training committee and provided from the council operating budget. If your unit can no longer provide you with this tape, copies may be purchased at the Scout Shop or you may check out a copy from the service center supply.

Boy Scout Leader Fast Start is available on the internet at the BSA Online Learning Center (Opens in a new window)

To gain the most benefit from Fast Start, follow this self-study with personal coaching by a knowledgeable Boy Scouter. This is to make sure that a new leader has a clear understanding of the job responsibilities. Leaders should complete Fast Start training before conducting their first meetings. Fast Start is the foundation for basic training, and a requirement for all Boy Scout leader awards.
