Svoboda Family Scholarship

Applications will only be considered if received by 5:00 p.m. on January 18, 2008. Applications must be addressed to: Svoboda Scholarship Committee, Des Plaines Valley Scout Council, Boy Scouts of America, 811 W. Hillgrove Avenue, La Grange, Illinois 60525.

Grants levels will be determined annually based on the revenue available by the Des Plaines Valley Scout Council Eagle/Silver Scholarship Committee through gifts by individuals, foundations, and corporations.

The applicant must:

  1. Be currently registered in the Des Plaines Valley Scout Council, Boy Scouts of America.
  2. Have been granted the Eagle Scout Award or Silver Award. Applicants must ensure that they have been certified as an Eagle Scout or Silver Award recipient prior to submission of the application.
  3. Be a graduating high school senior or entering a post-secondary school freshman in the year application is made for a scholarship. The “Svoboda Family Scholarship” is limited to those freshmen desiring to attend the University of Illinois or The University of Illinois - Chicago or students currently enrolled at either of these two schools. Contact the Council Service Center for more information on this area.
  4. Submit photocopy of SAT score and/or ACT score (Applicants must have taken the SAT or ACT in time to submit the results with their application.
  5. Have demonstrated leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities of Scouting.
  6. Possess a financial need.
  7. Have the endorsement of a volunteer or professional Scout leader who knows the applicant personally.

Note: Scholarship Funds will be held in escrow and sent directly to the financial officer at the school of your choice or by restrictions to specific scholarships. When the escrow release form is received (at the Council Service Center), your scholarship funds will be forwarded with a statement to the financial officer indicating that these funds must be used as the recipient directs and may not be used to reduce the financial grants provided by the school.

The Council on or about February 7, 2008 will inform winning applicant(s).
