Des Plaines Valley Council’s

Risk Management Committee

Q.     What is the role of the Risk Management Committee?

A.     The role of the Risk Management Committee is to identify trends and hazards in Scouting activities in the Des Plaines Valley Council that affect the personal well-being of individuals with regards to fatalities, serious injuries, child abuse, etc and the financial interests and assets of the council.

Q.     What is The Risk Zone?

A.     The “Risk Zone” is a state of physical and mental fatigue that is a major cause of highway crash fatalities.

Guide to Safe Scouting section on Transportation refers to the Risk Zone, as well as other vehicle safety tips.

Jamboree Risk Zone Information includes the Driver's Pledge for drivers responsible for pre-jamboree and jamboree driving.

Traffic Safety Merit Badge. As part of its Risk Zone campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while fatigued, the BSA's Risk Management Service revised the Traffic Safety merit badge pamphlet (BSA No. 33391A) at the 2001 National Jamboree. The progressive new requirements make the hands-on merit badge enjoyable for Boy Scouts and merit badge counselors alike.
