Online Tour Permits
There is a process for completing and submitting Tour Permits online. Log in to
MyScouting.org with your username and password. Follow the instructions to create an account if you don't have one.
You'll need the following information for a tour permit:
- Information about vehicles that may be used to transport Scouts to the event. (This information will be available for all tour permits submitted for the unit.)
- Training information about leaders who may be participating in the event. (This information will be available for all tour permits submitted for the unit.)
- Tour details:
- Tour name, dates, and leaders.
- Acceptance of polices based on the type of tour.
- Specific vehicles and leaders for this tour.
Paper Tour Permit Forms
Local Council Tour Permit (form #34426)
Available for travel outside the home community and less than
500 miles one way requires 14 days for handling and approval. (Print on legal (8.5 x 14) size paper)
National Council Tour Permit (form #34419)
Available for travel 500 or more miles one way is granted by
the BSA regional office and requires at least 30 days for approval. (Print on legal (8.5 x 14) size paper)
The protections afforded an official activity of the Boy Scouts of America are not extended to a unit without a valid tour permit.
Considerations for applying:
- The Local Council Tour Permit must be submitted at least 14 days prior to
the tour; the National Council Tour Permit must be submitted at least one
month prior to the tour since it requires handling by the Regional Office of
the BSA.
Sorry, but we are not able to process tour permits "while you wait". Tour permits will be processed and returned to you by mail before your trip takes place.
- The completed form must provide all pertinent information requested in
full and accurate detail. (The online form will not allow incomplete forms
to be submitted.)
- The form must be signed by the tour leader attesting to the completeness and accuracy of the information provided and agreeing to follow all applicable standards and policies of the Boy Scouts of America. (For paper forms.)
- NOTE: The endorsement of the tour permits by the tour leader and the unit committee chairman can have far reaching effects and should not be done casually.
