“A Century of Values” Road Tour Visits Boy Scouts of America
Des Plaines Valley Council in La Grange, IL
As part of a nationwide program of visits to Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organizations, BSA’s “A Century of Values” road tour team visited the Des Plaines Valley Council in La Grange, IL celebrating the upcoming 2010 100th Anniversary of the Scouting movement in this country.
On Tuesday, August 18, at 9:30 am, members of road team made a special presentation to Council Scout Executive Irene Szinavel and other local representatives in front of the Council’s Service Center in La Grange, with the team’s colorfully decorated recreational vehicle as a backdrop.
The program is part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Boy Scouts’ Detroit Area Council. Its goal is to have “A Century of Values” teams visit every Scouting Council in the nation before the Anniversary date, February 8, 2010, to present commemorative Centennial portraits thanking the local Councils for their professional service to youth in their communities.
“We are delighted to welcome “A Century of Values” to the Des Plaines Valley Council to help us highlight our upcoming anniversary,” said Ms. Szinavel. “The Centennial portrait will serve as a vivid reminder of the many contributions of Scouting to our communities and provide an inspiration for our own celebrations and special anniversary events over the next months. We will display the portrait proudly in our Service Center here in La Grange.”
During their year-long road journeys, the road tour teams expect to cover 45,000 miles in a recreational vehicle emblazoned with images highlighting the world of Scouting, emphasizing its contributions and the upcoming Anniversary. They expect to make more than 350 visits across the nation, visiting all 308 Scouting Councils and other facilities, shown on the vehicle by a large map of the United States depicting the different legs of the road tours.
A mobile mural of the history, scope and contributions of Scouting, the 32-foot Class C recreational vehicle was donated to the Scouts for this effort by Coachmen Industries.
